Three Indian climbers were among a record 274 mountaineers who reached the summit of Mount Everest from Nepal’s side in a single day, officials said. The group topped out on the 8,848.86-metre peak on Wednesday, setting a new high for daily ascents.
The three Indians named among the summiters are Tulasi Reddi Palpunoori, Sandeep Are and Ajay Pal Singh Dhaliwal. Rishi Ram Bhandari, general secretary of the Expedition Operators Association in Nepal, said the total included about 150 Nepalese sherpas who helped lead teams and guide clients to the top.
Permission data for the spring 2026 season show 502 climbers had been authorized to attempt Everest, and the 274 summiting in one day surpass the previous single-day record of 223 climbers set in May 2019.
On Thursday, another Indian climber, Lakshmikanta Mandal, also reached the summit. He climbed alongside eight others, including six Nepalese sherpas, on an expedition organized by Pioneer Adventure Pvt. Ltd.
Spring 2026 also produced individual milestone records: Nepal’s Kami Rita Sherpa extended his personal record with a 32nd Everest summit, while Lhakpa Sherpa became the first woman to reach the peak 11 times this season.
