New Delhi, December 4 — Thailand and India are moving to deepen their longstanding maritime partnership, Thailand’s ambassador to India, Chavanart Thangsumphant, said at the Royal Thai Embassy event marking Thailand’s National Day and Father’s Day. The ambassador also announced plans for commemorative activities to mark the birth anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great.
Thangsumphant highlighted a series of high level visits this year that she said transformed bilateral ties. She noted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official visit, which upgraded relations to a strategic partnership, and the recent visit by Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow from November 29 to December 2, which she said reinforced cooperation on connectivity, trade, security and regional initiatives.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar underlined the importance of the India Thailand relationship, describing Thailand as a very important maritime neighbour. During a bilateral meeting, Jaishankar and Sihasak reviewed progress across political cooperation, bilateral and multilateral trade and investment, connectivity projects, startups, science and technology, innovation and space collaboration.
Thailand reiterated its intention to join BRICS and asked for India s support during India s 2026 chairmanship, signalling a desire to expand South South cooperation. Both sides discussed foreign policy responses to current geopolitical challenges and expressed readiness to work together in multilateral forums to strengthen regional integration and prosperity.
