A blast struck the Imambargah Qasr-e-Khadijatul Kubra in Islamabad’s Tarlai area during Friday prayers, killing several people, Pakistani media reported. The explosion happened near the shrine’s entrance as worshippers were gathered for prayers.
The injured were taken to nearby hospitals, including the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and Polyclinic, where several patients remain under treatment. Hospital officials said some victims sustained serious injuries, but the full condition of all those hurt was not immediately clear.
Eyewitnesses described the blast occurring at or close to the gate. Videos circulating on social media showed damaged structures, shattered glass, and worshippers and local residents assisting the wounded in the immediate aftermath.
Preliminary information indicates a suicide attacker attempted to enter the premises but detonated explosives at the gate after being stopped by security guards.
