Riyadh, March 22 — The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a strong denunciation of what it described as ongoing Iranian aggression against the Kingdom and its regional partners. In a statement carried by Gulf News and released through the Saudi Press Agency, Riyadh said the “blatant Iranian attacks” have targeted Gulf Cooperation Council members as well as other Arab and Islamic states.
The ministry accused Iran of repeatedly violating Saudi sovereignty by attacking civilian infrastructure, harming civilians, threatening economic interests and compromising diplomatic premises. It said these actions amount to serious breaches of international law, contravene relevant international conventions and run counter to principles of good neighbourliness.
Saudi authorities also said Iran’s military conduct violates the Beijing Agreement and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026). The statement highlighted a stark discrepancy between Tehran’s public rhetoric and its behaviour, saying the latter undermines claims of Islamic brotherhood often advanced by Iranian leaders.
As a diplomatic response, Riyadh reiterated a warning first issued on March 9 and declared the Iranian military attache to the embassy, the assistant military attache and three mission staff members persona non grata. The five individuals were ordered to depart Saudi Arabia within 24 hours.
Invoking Article 51 of the UN Charter, the Kingdom said it will take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty and security, including safeguarding its territory, airspace, citizens, residents, resources and national interests amid the regional crisis.
