Tehran, April 4 (ANI) — A projectile struck near the perimeter of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant on Saturday morning, killing one security officer, the Tasnim news agency reported. Tasnim said the plant’s main sections were not damaged, though an auxiliary building sustained damage. Production reportedly continued without interruption.
Bushehr, on the Persian Gulf in southern Iran, is the country’s first commercial nuclear power station.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions after US former President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social warning of potential strikes on Iranian infrastructure, including bridges and electric power plants, and saying the US military “hasn’t even started destroying what’s left in Iran.” The posts signalled a possible escalation in an effort identified by some as Operation Epic Fury, which began on February 28. Trump has also previously said he would consider bombing Iran “back to the Stone Ages.”
Separately, Trump told NBC News that the downing of an American military aircraft would not alter diplomatic talks with Iran, stating, “No, not at all. No, it’s war. We’re in war.” He declined to provide details on search-and-rescue operations and criticized media coverage of what he described as a complex, active military operation.
In response to the US rhetoric, Iran’s central military headquarters issued a warning to the United States and its regional partners, state broadcaster Press TV reported. Ebrahim Zolfaghari, spokesperson for the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, said Iran could carry out strikes against American and Israeli assets and against infrastructure in countries hosting US bases if threats against Iran’s infrastructure are acted upon. Press TV described the warning as a direct response to the US statements and quoted Iran’s military command as vowing to respond with overwhelming force to any such attacks.
