Geneva, March 24 — On the sidelines of the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, the ECO-FAWN Society staged a photo exhibition near the Broken Chair monument outside the UN office in Geneva to draw attention to alleged restrictions on press freedom in Pakistan.
The display featured posters reading messages such as “Journalists under attack in Pakistan” and “Press freedom under threat in Pakistan,” and included profiles of several journalists. Organisers said the panels documented claims of harassment, detention, intimidation and increasing limits on reporting that together create an unsafe environment for media workers and raise questions about Pakistan’s adherence to democratic norms.
Placed where diplomats, activists and international observers pass, the exhibition was intended to bring the issue directly to policymakers and human rights bodies. ECO-FAWN called on the international community to press for stronger protections for journalists, noting that an independent press is vital to transparency and accountability.
