Islamabad — Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar suffered a hairline fracture to his shoulder after slipping during a reception for Egypt’s foreign minister, his son said. The fall occurred Sunday at a quadrilateral meeting of foreign ministers from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye and Egypt convened to discuss the West Asia conflict. Video footage shows Dar losing his footing while inviting Egypt’s Badr Abdelatty to the stage; he rose and joined the guest for a ceremonial photograph.
Dar did not appear injured immediately. His son, Ali Dar, said he had been taking painkillers throughout the day and only agreed to a medical checkup late that night after recording an official statement. Ali Dar wrote on X that despite the injury, his father “completed all highly important meetings throughout the day on painkillers, Alhamdulillah.” X-ray results were mostly normal, but doctors identified a hairline fracture in the shoulder. Ali Dar said the pain will be managed in the coming days with medication and precautionary measures.
Ishaq Dar is a senior figure in Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s administration and remains active on both domestic and international issues. A chartered accountant by training, he has served multiple terms as finance minister under Pakistan Muslim League–Nawaz (PML-N). He is also a close ally and relative by marriage of former three-time prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
