Oslo, May 18 (ANI) — Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre urged countries that support a rules-based international order to strengthen their cooperation, warning that trade, diplomacy and critical supply chains are increasingly being used as geopolitical tools.
Speaking at the Norway-India Business and Research Summit in Oslo City Hall, Støre said the global system is evolving and nations committed to stable, standards-based relations should “move closer together.” He noted that he discussed these concerns with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier in the day, pointing to some global actors who are beginning to weaponise diplomacy, trade, value chains and access to critical rare materials.
Støre welcomed the results of Modi’s visit to Norway, saying several agreements were signed and that Norwegian businesses are now more engaged. He added that the Norwegian government intends to follow up and deepen political ties, with a Nordic-Indian summit scheduled for the following day.
Earlier, Prime Minister Modi met leading Norwegian business and research figures at the India-Norway Business and Research Summit. The meeting brought together CEOs and senior executives from sectors including energy and offshore wind, green hydrogen and ammonia, maritime and shipping, fertilizers and food security, consumer goods and food processing, industrial manufacturing and coatings, robotics and underwater technologies, healthcare technologies and research, innovation and higher education.
Organisers estimate the combined market capitalisation or enterprise value of the major participating companies at about USD 200 billion, underscoring the scale of Norway’s commercial engagement with India and India’s growing role as a trusted partner and innovation destination for Nordic economies.
Prominent Norwegian companies represented at the summit included Equinor (energy and offshore wind), Yara International (fertilisers and green ammonia), Orkla (consumer goods), Kongsberg Group/Kongsberg Maritime (maritime tech and robotics), DNV (maritime classification and energy transition services), Jotun (paints and coatings), Aker Solutions (energy engineering), BW LPG (LPG shipping) and Laerdal Medical (healthcare training and simulation).
The discussions highlighted commercial opportunities and reinforced mutual interest in deeper economic and research collaboration between India and Norway.
