Amman, December 14 — India’s ambassador to Jordan, Manish Chauhan, called Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first bilateral visit to Jordan a truly historic trip, citing its unprecedented scale and scope and its potential impact on bilateral, regional and global dynamics. The visit begins December 15 and runs through December 16.
In comments ahead of the trip, Chauhan highlighted the warm, long-standing ties between the two countries and said the visit could significantly deepen cooperation. He also noted the presence of an engaged Indian diaspora in Jordan of around 18,000 people, describing the community as well integrated and active across many fields and eager for the Prime Minister’s arrival.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, PM Modi will meet King Abdullah II to review the full range of bilateral relations and to exchange views on regional issues. The two leaders are expected to take part in an India-Jordan business event, and the Prime Minister will meet and address the Indian community in Jordan.
The MEA noted that India and Jordan share warm relations and strong leadership-level understanding. Economically, India is one of Jordan’s largest partners: bilateral trade is valued at approximately 2.8 billion US dollars, making India the third-largest trading partner for Jordan. The MEA also said about 15 government-linked companies have invested roughly 500 million dollars in Jordan’s qualified industrial zones.
Connectivity and people-to-people links are improving as well. Royal Jordanian has begun direct flights between Amman and Mumbai and plans to add services to New Delhi, while Jordan offers a tourist visa on arrival to Indian travelers, facilitating visits and business exchanges.
PM Modi’s stop in Jordan is the first leg of a three-nation tour. From Jordan he will travel to Ethiopia for a state visit on December 16 to 17, followed by a visit to Oman from December 17 to 18, which will be his second visit to that country.
