Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday welcomed an interim trade framework with the United States, saying it will reinforce the Make in India initiative by creating fresh opportunities for farmers, entrepreneurs and businesses while generating jobs for women and young people.
Modi thanked U.S. President Donald Trump for his personal commitment to strengthening ties between the two nations and called the announcement “great news for India and the USA.” He said the deal reflects growing depth, trust and dynamism in the strategic partnership and is expected to open the way for enhanced trade cooperation while tackling key market access and regulatory challenges.
According to the government, the proposed framework is designed to support Make in India across multiple sectors. Improved access to the U.S. market and streamlined trade processes are expected to benefit farmers, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), startups, fishermen and other entrepreneurs.
On X, Modi wrote that the agreement will deepen investment and technology partnerships, strengthen resilient and trusted supply chains, contribute to global growth and help advance India’s goal of a Viksit Bharat. He added that future-oriented global partnerships fostered by the framework will empower people and promote shared prosperity, particularly by creating large-scale employment opportunities for women and young people.
Officials said the interim pact is a step toward resolving regulatory and market-access issues and could lay the foundation for broader, long-term trade cooperation between the two countries.
