Two Mexican sailboats that had gone missing while carrying humanitarian aid to Cuba have safely docked in Havana, the Mexican Navy reported. The vessels, the catamaran Friendship and the Tigermoth, were located at sea and escorted into port after Mexican naval forces established contact.
In a post on X, the Secretariat of the Mexican Navy (SEMAR) said naval aircraft found the yachts about 80 nautical miles northwest of Havana and kept radio communication with their crews. A navy ship was dispatched to provide support while authorities maintained continuous monitoring and coordination to ensure a safe arrival.
The boats had been declared missing after losing communication with Mexican authorities, triggering a search-and-rescue response. Both vessels are part of the Nuestra America (Our America) convoy, an international aid flotilla composed mainly of groups and individuals from Latin America and Europe delivering humanitarian supplies to Cuba.
The convoy departed Isla Mujeres in the Mexican Caribbean on March 21. Organizers had expected the boats to reach their destination between the night of March 27 and the afternoon of March 28. The initiative was inspired by the Sumud Global Flotilla, which previously attempted to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza in 2025.
