New Delhi, April 28 (ANI) — External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Annalena Baerbock, President of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, in New Delhi to discuss a range of global priorities including UN reforms, progress on the Sustainable Development Goals, the implications of artificial intelligence, and the conflict in West Asia. Jaishankar said on X that he was pleased to host Baerbock and highlighted the need for a reformed multilateral system that reflects present realities and the interests of the Global South, while also commending her leadership at the UNGA. Baerbock began her two-day official visit by paying respects to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat. Her trip followed an invitation from Jaishankar; Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal described the visit as reaffirming India’s active engagement with the United Nations. During her stay, Baerbock will take part in an interactive session with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology on AI governance and regulation, and will meet the UN country team in India led by Resident Coordinator Stefan Priesner. Her visit is the second significant UN-related engagement hosted by India this year, after UN Secretary-General António Guterres attended the AI Impact Summit in February. This marks Baerbock’s first visit to India as UNGA President; she has previously visited in her capacity as Germany’s foreign minister. She is expected to travel to China after concluding her engagements in India. Reported by ANI.
