Israeli media, citing unnamed officials, reported that Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, was targeted in an overnight airstrike in Iran. Reports say it remains unclear whether Larijani was killed or injured.
The coverage also said the operation struck Palestinian Islamic Jihad leader Akram al-Ajouri and other senior figures in the group, according to defence sources. Israel Defence Forces (IDF) Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir was reported to have confirmed an assessment of ‘significant elimination achievements’ overnight, an apparent reference to the strike on Larijani and other detainees.
Zamir reportedly said senior operatives linked to terrorist activity in Gaza and the West Bank were sheltering in a Tehran safe house when it was hit. The IDF announced a series of targeted strikes against what it described as ‘Iranian regime infrastructure in different areas across Iran.’
In a post on X, the IDF said dozens of munitions were used against command centres in Tehran and that sites holding UAVs, ballistic missiles and air-defence equipment were struck. A map shared with the post showed strikes in Tehran, Shiraz and Tabriz. The IDF said the Shiraz strike hit an internal security forces command centre and a ballistic missile site, and that air-defence systems in the northwest were dismantled, measures it said expanded Israel’s aerial superiority and enhanced protection for Israeli forces.
Earlier statements from Larijani addressed the Muslim world, saying Iran remained ‘steadfast’ against the US and Israel and would not stand by while US bases exist in neighbouring countries. He framed the confrontation as being between America and Israel on one side and Iran and resistance forces on the other, urged Muslim unity, and denied Iran seeks regional hegemony.
