Muscat, April 26 — Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman at al-Baraka Palace to discuss recent developments in the region, diplomatic efforts to resolve crises, and bilateral ties, state media reported. Araghchi briefed the Omani monarch on Tehran’s perspective of recent events in West Asia and outlined measures Iran views as necessary to address them. He thanked Oman for backing dialogue and initiatives aimed at bolstering regional security and stability.
The Sultan set out Muscat’s emphasis on mediation and diplomacy, arguing that sustained political solutions are needed to reduce the humanitarian and social impact of ongoing crises. He stressed that prioritising dialogue and diplomatic channels is essential to consolidate the foundations of peace across the region, according to Press TV.
Press TV also reported that during his recent visit to Pakistan, Araghchi shared what Tehran describes as a “workable framework” with Pakistani mediators, a plan Iran says is aimed at permanently ending hostilities directed at the country.
Separately, President Masoud Pezeshkian told Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in a phone call that Iran will not enter negotiations under pressure, threats, or siege, Mehr News Agency reported. Pezeshkian criticised what he called ongoing violations and coercive behaviour by the United States during both negotiation and ceasefire periods, saying U.S. maritime restrictions on Iran represent a breach of the ceasefire understandings and run counter to the United Nations Charter.
He warned that such measures and threatening rhetoric have cast doubt on Washington’s commitment to the diplomatic process and reiterated Iran’s determination to defend its national security. Pezeshkian also underscored Iran’s commitment to strengthening relations with neighbouring states, including those on the southern shores of the Persian Gulf, on the basis of good neighbourliness and mutual respect, and expressed hope that regional countries would work together to promote peace and security free from external interference.
