Kathmandu, May 20, 2026 — Nepal police said an Indian national was among three people arrested on Tuesday on charges of drug trafficking.
Authorities identified the Indian suspect as 21-year-old Nandan Kamati from Madhubani district in Bihar. The two Nepali suspects were named as Ram Udar Yadav and Ram Bilaxen Yadav. All three were detained in Bishnupur municipality, Siraha district, during a security check on a public bus.
Police said officers recovered a small quantity of brown sugar from the group’s possession while the bus was en route from Siraha to Kathmandu. The substance is being examined as part of ongoing procedures.
The arrests followed routine checks aimed at curbing the movement of illicit drugs across districts. Officials said an investigation has been launched to determine the origin of the seized material and the suspects’ possible links to wider trafficking networks.
No formal charges have been filed in court yet; police said further legal steps will depend on the outcome of forensic tests and the investigation. The matter remains under active inquiry, authorities added.
