Dhaka, March 3 — Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma paid a courtesy call Tuesday on Bangladesh’s Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to discuss areas of shared interest and closer bilateral cooperation.
The two officials focused on strengthening local governance and rural development, with particular emphasis on the rural economy, agricultural cooperatives and financial empowerment at the grassroots. They agreed to expand collaborative efforts that promote people-centered development and bolster ties between communities in both countries.
Verma emphasized that India–Bangladesh relations rest on strong people-to-people links and said India is prepared to engage with Bangladesh in a positive, constructive and forward-looking manner to deepen cooperation across areas of mutual interest and benefit.
Earlier in the week, Verma met Bangladesh’s Home Affairs Minister Salahuddin Ahmed to exchange views on bilateral matters, including security cooperation. He also held talks with Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Md. Asaduzzaman.
These meetings follow Verma’s February 22 discussions with Bangladesh’s new Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman and Minister of State Shama Obaidul Islam, where he reiterated India’s readiness to work with the new government in Dhaka to strengthen people-centric cooperation across sectors.
