New Delhi — Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan hosted Armenia’s Chief of the General Staff, Lt. Gen. Edvard Asryan, in the national capital to discuss possible joint ventures in the development of military hardware. On arrival, Lt. Gen. Asryan was welcomed by General Chauhan and received a ceremonial Guard of Honour.
Officials said the meeting, flagged on the Integrated Defence Staff’s social channel, underscores the steady strengthening of defence ties between the two countries. During talks, both delegations explored collaboration on defence equipment projects and reiterated their intent to build a strong, forward-looking, mutually beneficial strategic partnership.
The New Delhi meeting follows a four-day visit by General Chauhan to Armenia in February, when he met Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to discuss opportunities for deeper cooperation and the evolving geopolitical and security landscape. That visit also included exchanges with Armenia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Robert Abisoghomonyan on regional security issues, and detailed discussions with Defence Minister Suren Papikyan about broadening defence cooperation across areas of shared interest.
While in Armenia, General Chauhan addressed faculty and students at the National Defence Research University, speaking about changes in the nature of warfare and the accelerating role of technology. He highlighted the growing importance of multi-domain operations and emerging domains such as cyber, electronic warfare, space and cognitive effects as drivers of future military capability.
Officials described the talks as part of an ongoing effort to translate strategic convergence into concrete defence-industrial cooperation, including technology and hardware development. Reported by ANI.
