Tel Aviv, March 8 â The Israel Defense Forces said the Israeli Air Force carried out strikes on multiple Iranian military sites in Tehran, targeting fuel storage complexes the military described as belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
In a post on X, the IDF said the hits were guided by its intelligence and struck facilities it said were used to distribute fuel to various Iranian military units. The military characterized the operation as significantly degrading what it called the Iranian regimeâs military infrastructure and published an image identifying a fuel storage site in Tehran it said was used by Iranian forces.
Iranian state media and the IRGC immediately responded. Press TV reported the IRGC announced the start of the 27th phase of Operation True Promise 4 â framed by Tehran as retaliation for what it described as a new wave of âunprovoked US-Israeli aggression.â The IRGC said this phase would include coordinated drone and missile barrages and counterstrikes against Israeli military infrastructure in the north of the occupied territories.
The IRGCâs statement, carried by Press TV, said its Aerospace Division employed newly developed solid-fuel Kheibar-Shekan missiles with terminal guidance capability and that strikes had targeted Haifa. The IRGC also claimed unmanned aerial systems struck a site housing American personnel in an area it described as âMarina,â near buildings identified as belonging to the Warner Brothers company.
Separately, the IRGC Navy said it struck facilities it associated with the U.S. Fifth Fleet in Bahrain, including what it described as a command center for unmanned surface vessels and support hangars at Salman Port.
Press TV quoted the IRGC as saying Israeli authorities were attempting to concentrate residents of the occupied territories in northern and central areas to protect military personnel, and it described a pattern of repeated emergency sirens across the region. The IRGC warned it is prepared for prolonged escalation and said its forces were âlying in waitâ for U.S. forces with precision and planning.
The IRGC said Operation True Promise 4 began following foreign strikes the previous Saturday and that, since then, it had launched hundreds of ballistic missiles and suicide drones at strategic targets, including sites in Tel Aviv, occupied al-Quds (Jerusalem), and Beâer Sheva. Earlier Iranian statements also claimed engagements involving the U.S. aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln and a destroyer in the Indian Ocean.
