Snow and freezing rain struck Berlin’s airport on Thursday morning, forcing airlines to delay or cancel multiple departing flights. The airport’s website said no takeoffs were taking place because of the weather and urged passengers to check flight status with their carriers.
Regional broadcaster RBB reported that jets could not be de-iced after rain quickly turned to ice on aircraft surfaces. At 10:15 a.m. (0915 GMT), flight-tracking site Flightradar24 showed no departures were taking off.
Fresh snow and freezing rain overnight and into the morning affected much of eastern Germany as well, disrupting road and rail services. Snow crews were also working to clear streets in the city.
