Finnish President Alexander Stubb has concluded an official visit to India that New Delhi says elevates bilateral relations to a Strategic Partnership in Digitalisation and Sustainability. The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal described the trip as a defining moment for India–Finland ties and shared photographs of a warm airport send-off by Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani.
Invited by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Stubb served as the chief guest and keynote speaker at the 11th Raisina Dialogue in New Delhi. He led a high-level delegation of ministers, senior officials and business representatives, with discussions aimed at deepening cooperation across multiple sectors, notably digitalisation and sustainability.
Stubb held talks with Prime Minister Modi on strengthening bilateral relations, expanding economic partnership, enhancing people-to-people links and coordinating on regional and global issues, including in multilateral forums. A luncheon in his honour was hosted by the Prime Minister. The Finnish leader also met President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan, and held a separate meeting with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.
Following engagements in Delhi, Stubb travelled to Mumbai where he met the Governor and the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, spoke with local business leaders and addressed students at the University of Mumbai.
India and Finland maintain a warm, multifaceted relationship grounded in shared democratic values, with Finland an important partner for India within the EU and the Nordic region. Stubb’s visit follows Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo’s trip to India for the AI Impact Summit in February, underscoring both countries’ intent to broaden cooperation.
