Quetta, Dec 13 — Families of several underage students reported missing in Balochistan’s Quetta are urging authorities to locate their children, amid reports of separate security operations in the province’s coastal town of Jiwani.
Speaking at a press conference at the Quetta Press Club, activist Samrosh Baloch said Pakistani security forces detained a number of young students during raids months ago and their whereabouts remain unknown. She said families have long faced sudden raids in which boys are taken and remain missing for months, sometimes released later without explanation.
According to the families, the minors taken during October raids include Hairbiyar Baloch, Afzal Baloch, Beebarg Qambrani, Noor Muhammad and Hammal Qambrani. None have been produced in court or formally charged. Samrosh Baloch also said members of her own family have been detained and later freed. She reported further searches in her area on the night of December 6, when homes were raided for several hours but no illegal items were found.
Separately, The Balochistan Post reported that Pakistani forces conducted operations in Jiwani tehsil of Gwadar district, searching homes in Sadiq Bazaar, Kaldaan and Gapt. More than seven men were reportedly taken to undisclosed locations; three were named as Tufail, Jamshaid and Zohaib, and two labourers were detained from the Kuntani area. Earlier reports also described operations in the Gresha and Ornach areas of Khuzdar, where several young men were allegedly apprehended and taken to unknown locations.
Families and rights groups say such incidents reflect a rising pattern of enforced disappearances across Balochistan. The reporting above is based on accounts published by The Balochistan Post and syndicated by ANI.
