Eurostat reported that renewable energy accounted for 49.3% of net electricity generation in the European Union in the third quarter of 2025, up 3.8 percentage points from 47.5% in the same quarter of 2024.
Among member states, Denmark recorded the highest share of renewables in net electricity generation at 95.9%, followed by Austria (93.3%) and Estonia (85.6%). The smallest shares were observed in Malta (16.6%), Czechia (19.7%) and Slovakia (21.1%).
Renewable shares rose year-on-year in 21 EU countries. The largest increases were seen in Estonia (+20.6 percentage points), Latvia (+18.9 percentage points) and Austria (+16.3 percentage points).
Breaking down renewable generation by technology, solar represented 38.3% of renewable electricity, wind 30.7%, and hydro 23.3%. Combustible renewable fuels contributed 7.2%, while geothermal energy made up 0.5%.
