Washington, DC, December 14 — Tara Chand, president of the Baloch American Congress, has urged Bollywood and the Indian film industry to produce a movie exposing what he described as Pakistan’s “forced and undemocratic occupation” of Balochistan. In a post on X, Chand asserted that Balochistan was independent before being occupied by Pakistan in March 1948 and said the Pakistani military has controlled the region since, leading to prolonged conflict and repression.
Chand accused Pakistani authorities of systematically extracting Balochistan’s natural wealth for decades, citing natural gas, minerals, gold, silver, coal, and marine resources as being exploited while the local Baloch population remains deprived. He said resistance to Pakistani rule began immediately after the alleged occupation and that the Baloch have risen up repeatedly, with the most significant phase of armed resistance beginning around 2000 and continuing today.
Highlighting ongoing grievances, Chand alleged widespread enforced disappearances carried out by the Pakistani military, naming political activists, lawyers, teachers, doctors, students, educated youth and women among those reportedly abducted. He claimed thousands of Baloch men and women are held in military detention without due process and that many have been killed or subjected to serious human rights abuses during the conflict.
Despite what he described as decades of repression, Chand said the people of Balochistan remain committed to pursuing self-determination and their struggle for homeland, alleging that abductions and coerced surrenders continue.
