Manama, June 3 (ANI) — Bahrain’s Ministry of Interior said emergency warning sirens were activated across the kingdom on Wednesday and urged people to seek shelter immediately as regional tensions unfolded.
In a post on X, the ministry instructed residents and expatriates to stay calm and move to the nearest safe location. The ministry’s Arabic message read: “تم إطلاق صافرة الإنذار ،نرجو من المواطنين والمقيمين الهدوء والتوجه لأقرب مكان آمن ومتابعة الأخبار عبر القنوات الرسمية.” The tweet was posted on June 2, 2026.
The alert in Bahrain came as neighbouring Kuwait reported it had engaged incoming aerial threats. Kuwaiti authorities said air-defence systems intercepted and neutralised a wave of missiles and drones in the early hours of Wednesday; residents in several areas heard loud detonations tied to those defensive actions.
Kuwait’s Army General Staff issued a statement explaining that the explosions reported by civilians were the result of air-defence intercepts against hostile missile and drone attacks. The military warned people not to approach or handle any debris, shrapnel or unidentified objects, citing safety risks.
Kuwaiti officials urged the public to follow safety instructions from official agencies. Ministry of Defence spokesperson Colonel Saud Abdulaziz Al-Otaibi asked anyone who finds suspicious debris to call emergency services on the 112 hotline and to avoid sharing or acting on unverified reports. He stressed that information should be obtained only from state-sanctioned channels and that the public should cooperate with security directives to preserve safety.
State media in Iran offered a different account, with Iran’s state broadcaster claiming that American military facilities located in Kuwait had been struck in retaliation for what Tehran described as recent hostile Western actions in the Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz and around Qeshm Island. Those claims could not be independently verified.
The exchanges add to a pattern of escalating cross-border tensions in the region following a series of confrontations involving Iran, the United States and Israel. Earlier in the week, Kuwait said it had foiled a separate barrage of missiles and drones and held Iran “fully responsible” for that attack.
The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) posted an operational update confirming that U.S. forces in the area had intercepted two Iranian ballistic missiles that were reportedly targeting American personnel based in Kuwait. CENTCOM said the missiles were defeated and that no U.S. personnel were injured.
Authorities in the affected countries continue to stress public safety and caution against spreading unverified information. Local militaries and emergency services remain on alert as investigations and defensive operations proceed.
