New Delhi, May 16, 2026 — Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi issued a stark warning to Pakistan over its role in cross-border terrorism, linking continued support for militants to the country’s future standing. Speaking at the Sena Samvad event, Gen Dwivedi referenced Operation Sindoor — launched after the Pahalgam terror attack — and said Islamabad must decide whether it will remain merely part of geography or risk being written out of history if it persists in harbouring and enabling terrorists.
Responding to questions on Operation Sindoor, the chief reiterated that Pakistan’s policies of supporting anti-India activities carry clear consequences. India carried out strikes against terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir during Operation Sindoor; after Pakistani escalation, India also targeted Pakistani airbases.
Gen Dwivedi also focused on the Army’s push to harness young technological talent. He described today’s generation as far more adaptable, socially aware and digitally fluent than previous cohorts, and announced steps to tap that potential. The Army has begun internships across its establishments and workshops and received around 100,000 applications for just 100 positions, he said.
Pointing to 2026–27 as a year of networking and data-centric transformation for the force, the chief stressed the value of simple, pragmatic solutions from young minds. “On the battlefield we need equalisers, not more tank-versus-tank thinking,” he said, adding that straightforward answers to complex problems can be decisive.
Gen Dwivedi warned that military modernisation must keep pace with rapid technological change. Technology becomes dated quickly — often within 18 months — so adaptation must occur at every rank, from soldier to senior commanders. He spoke about self-actualisation and leadership, urging officers to recognise and develop their potential while guiding teams.
He further outlined a whole-of-nation approach to modern warfare: integrating civil and military capabilities, establishing interlinked systems, and providing strategic guidance to decision-makers so that national strengths translate into operational advantage down to the soldier and the citizen.
