Dhaka, May 24, 2026 — Outgoing Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma paid a farewell call on Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Sunday ahead of his departure from the post.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Rahman thanked Verma for his role in strengthening bilateral ties and wished him well for his next assignment. Verma reiterated India’s commitment to deepen multifaceted engagement with Bangladesh to promote mutual benefit and shared prosperity.
The two discussed possible areas of cooperation that align with the development priorities of both countries. The exchange was described as a courtesy visit at the Prime Minister’s Office in the Cabinet Division of the Bangladesh Secretariat.
Bangladesh Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman was present for the meeting, according to a post on X by the ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party.
Verma is scheduled to leave Bangladesh on May 27, 2026, following his appointment as India’s Ambassador to Belgium and the European Union.
Senior politician and former Union minister Dinesh Trivedi has been named the next Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh and is expected to assume the role soon. Trivedi served as Railway Minister (2011–2012) and as Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare (2009–2011). He represented the Barrackpore Lok Sabha constituency from 2009 to 2019 as a member of the All India Trinamool Congress and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2021.
