New Delhi, April 29 (ANI): External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Wednesday highlighted the expansion of India’s global engagement over the past decade and said Indian diplomacy is prepared to advance national interests and secure national goals.
Addressing India’s High Commissioners, Ambassadors and senior MEA officials at the 11th Heads of Missions Conference in New Delhi, Jaishankar said their discussions acknowledged the significant broadening of India’s international outreach in recent years. “In a volatile and turbulent world, Indian diplomacy stands ready to advance national interest and secure national goals,” he said in a post on X.
Earlier the same day, Jaishankar met Ecuador Foreign Minister Gabriela Sommerfeld Rosero, who is on her first visit to India. The two discussed deepening cooperation in trade, health, agriculture, digital technology and capacity building, and agreed to work closely in multilateral fora. Jaishankar welcomed Ecuador’s decision to initiate the process for joining the India-led International Solar Alliance and the International Big Cat Alliance, noting Ecuador is already a member of the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI).
He also described an agreement on funding for Quick Impact Projects as a step forward in deepening development partnership between the two countries. Rosero arrived in New Delhi early Wednesday for a three-day official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties.
Separately, Jaishankar met Annalena Baerbock, President of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, to discuss UN reforms, the Sustainable Development Goals, artificial intelligence and the conflict in West Asia. He underscored the need for reformed multilateralism that reflects contemporary realities and the concerns and aspirations of the Global South, and expressed appreciation for Baerbock’s leadership at the UNGA.
Baerbock’s visit to India, at Jaishankar’s invitation and part of a broader trip to Asia, will include meetings with senior government officials, representatives of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, and the UN Country Team in India, as well as engagements with the UN Country Team in Bhutan.
