Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma paid a courtesy call Monday on Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to discuss ways to deepen bilateral engagement. The two leaders focused on people-centered cooperation that supports the national development priorities of both countries.
According to a post by the Indian High Commission on X, Verma expressed India’s desire to work with the government and people of Bangladesh in a positive, constructive and forward-looking spirit, guided by mutual interest and mutual benefit.
Discussions ranged across several areas, including public health, financial inclusion, women’s empowerment, rural development, trade and investment, and measures to improve the ease of doing business. Both sides also explored prospects for technology partnerships and cooperation in power and energy.
Verma highlighted the importance of converting geographic proximity into concrete opportunities by strengthening economic and connectivity links and expanding cultural and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
Separately, on April 3 Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Riaz Hamidullah met with Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi to discuss enhancing defence cooperation. The Additional Directorate General of Public Information of the Indian Army said the talks covered possible joint training initiatives and other steps toward deeper collaboration to promote regional peace and security.
Earlier, on March 27, Union Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh described Indo-Bangladesh ties as strategic, people-focused, resilient and forward-looking while speaking at a National Day reception for Bangladesh’s 56th Independence and National Day at the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi.
The meetings reflect ongoing efforts on both sides to broaden cooperation across civilian and defence domains and to deepen ties that support shared development and regional stability.
