New Delhi, March 29 (ANI) — Former diplomat Mahesh Sachdev said on Sunday that Iran has demonstrated notable resilience, leaving the US and Israel at an impasse after weeks of fighting. Speaking to ANI, Sachdev described Iran’s counterattacks as an unexpected development that has shifted the dynamics on the ground.
Sachdev said the conflict has reached a critical point. After four weeks of an intensive air campaign, he argued, US and Israeli efforts appear to have hit a dead end. While several Iranian political and military figures have been killed in targeted attacks, Sachdev noted that Tehran had already prepared for leadership succession, and transitions have proceeded smoothly. He added that those who have stepped in tend to be harder-liners than their predecessors.
According to Sachdev, efforts to bring about regime change would not serve US and Israeli objectives. In response to the strikes, Iran has carried out attacks on Israel and also struck US bases and US-linked facilities in Gulf Cooperation Council countries. Taken together, he said, these actions have produced a surprising and unwelcome turn in the situation.
Separately, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi condemned the killing of three journalists in Lebanon, calling the incident a ‘targeted assassination.’ Posting on his official Telegram channel, Araghchi described the deaths as not only a grievous loss for regional and global journalism but also a serious wake-up call for the international conscience, Al Jazeera reported.
He accused the attack of aiming to ‘terrorise the truth’ by silencing reporters, and said Israel has a long record of targeting media professionals — conduct he said violates international laws and conventions, according to Al Jazeera.
