Mexico City [Mexico], March 29 (ANI): Two Mexican sailboats, the catamaran-type Friendship and Tigermoth, which disappeared while delivering humanitarian aid to Cuba on Thursday, have safely docked at Havana’s port, the Mexican Navy said.
In a post on X, the Mexican Navy said the vessels arrived and docked safely after their location at sea, and that continuous monitoring and coordination were maintained with relevant authorities to ensure their safe arrival.
Naval aircraft located the yachts about 80 nautical miles northwest of Havana and maintained radio communication with the vessels, the Secretariat of the Mexican Navy (SEMAR) said. A navy ship was en route to provide support.
The boats had been reported missing after losing communication with Mexican authorities, prompting a search and rescue operation.
The vessels are part of the Nuestra America (Our America) convoy, an international aid convoy made up largely of groups and individuals from Latin America and Europe delivering aid to Cuba, CNN reported.
The boats departed Isla Mujeres in the Mexican Caribbean on March 21 and were expected to arrive “between the night of Friday, March 27 and noon on Saturday, March 28,” the convoy said, per CNN.
The initiative was inspired by the Sumud Global Flotilla, which attempted to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza in 2025, CNN added.
