US President Donald Trump had a “productive” conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the White House said, referring to talks between the two leaders on Tuesday. The New York Times reported that billionaire Elon Musk joined the phone call when the leaders discussed the situation in West Asia.
“President Trump has a great relationship with Prime Minister Modi, and this was a productive conversation,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told PTI when asked about the New York Times report.
The New York Times, citing unnamed US officials, said Musk’s participation was an unusual appearance by a private citizen on a call between two heads of state during a wartime crisis. Two US officials confirmed Musk was included, a detail the paper said suggests he is back on better terms with the President after a public falling out last year following his departure from a government role in which he had been tasked with cutting the workforce.
The report did not make clear why Musk was on the call or whether he spoke. It was the first conversation between Modi and Trump since the West Asia conflict began on February 28. During the call, Modi emphasized the need to keep the Strait of Hormuz open, secure and accessible, saying it is vital for global peace, stability and economic well-being.
