US President Donald Trump’s signature will soon appear on US paper currency, marking the first time a sitting president’s name will be printed on dollar bills since the introduction of paper money in 1861, the Treasury Department announced.
The move coincides with celebrations for the 250th anniversary of American independence. US Treasurer Brandon Beach said on X that President Donald J. Trump’s signature, alongside Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s, will soon be featured on US currency, calling it a historic first that symbolizes the president’s leadership and lasting impact.
Earlier this month, a federal arts commission approved a final design for a 24-karat gold commemorative coin bearing Mr. Trump’s image to mark the semiquincentennial. The coin, depicting Trump leaning on the Resolute Desk with clenched fists, will be only the second instance of a living president appearing on a US coin.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent praised what he called unprecedented economic growth and strengthened dollar dominance under President Trump, saying there was no more fitting way to recognize the country’s achievements than by issuing currency bearing the president’s name at the 250th anniversary. Treasurer Beach added that printing Trump’s signature on American currency was appropriate recognition of what he described as the president’s role in an economic revival.
