Sao Paulo [Brazil], March 26 (ANI): The Brazilian government, together with Mercosur partners, has launched new trade talks with key markets including India and the United Arab Emirates to diversify exports after progress on its EU deal.
Tatiana Prazeres, Secretary of Foreign Trade at Brazil’s Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services, told reporters ahead of a Brasilia panel that implementation of the EU agreement is expected to spur further trade engagement with other partners.
She said negotiations are underway to expand the existing Mercosur-India accord and that new talks with the UAE have begun. These moves form part of a strategy to deepen Mercosur’s global ties, boost export opportunities and lower dependence on traditional markets. Emerging economies such as India and the UAE are seen as attractive because of strong growth, consumption potential and investment prospects, reports Brasil 247.
Prazeres also warned that Brazil remains cautious about trade with the United States, noting uncertainty around American tariff policy, which she called volatile and hard to predict. Brazilian exports face average US tariffs of about 10 percent, with higher duties on items such as steel under Section 232.
Although the situation has improved from last year, when tariffs rose sharply, officials stressed the need for steady dialogue with Washington. Prazeres said continued engagement is vital to navigating an increasingly fluid and unpredictable global trade environment. (ANI)
