Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi met with Air Chief Marshal Sir Harvey Smyth, Chief of the Air Staff of the Royal Air Force, to discuss advancing defence cooperation between India and the United Kingdom, the Indian Navy said.
The interaction, conveyed on the Navy’s official social media, focused on strengthening collaboration across maritime and aerospace domains, with emphasis on enhancing jointness, improving interoperability, and addressing evolving maritime and aerospace security challenges.
Both leaders exchanged views on expanding operational cooperation, training exchanges, and capacity building. They underscored the importance of integrated approaches to ensure stability across the Indo-Pacific and beyond and reaffirmed their commitment to deepen strategic ties and foster enduring defence partnerships.
Earlier, Sir Harvey Smyth visited the Indian Air Force base at Air Force Station Gwalior to gain first-hand insight into fighter base operations and to strengthen bilateral defence ties. During the visit he interacted with IAF personnel, observed operational aspects of the strategic fighter base, and was received by Air Marshal B Manikantan, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Central Air Command.
On the same day, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan held a high-level meeting with Sir Harvey Smyth, reaffirming the growing India-UK defence partnership. Their discussion highlighted the continuing exchange of instructors as a key pillar of bilateral cooperation and noted significant progress in enhancing defence intelligence collaboration. The CDS also praised the successful conduct of the 17th Military Sub Group Meeting and expressed confidence in advancing a more integrated, future-ready defence engagement.
Sir Harvey Smyth’s three-day visit to India, hosted by the British High Commission, showcased deepening defence cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the air domain through expanded training, operational exchanges, and strategic engagement. He paid homage to fallen soldiers at the National War Memorial, reviewed a Guard of Honour presented by the Indian Air Force, and held talks with India’s Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, on evolving security threats and further strengthening cooperation between the two air forces.
