The Delhi Police on Wednesday said it busted an arms-smuggling module linked to Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh and arrested 10 people. A cache of foreign-made weapons, including sub-machine guns and automatic pistols, and about 200 live cartridges were recovered.
Police said 21 firearms were seized, among them a Czech-made sub-machine gun and pistols of various international makes: PX-5.7 (used by special forces), Stoeger (Turkey), PX-3 (China), Shadow CZ (Czech Republic), and models from Beretta (Italy), Taurus (Brazil) and Walther (Germany).
Preliminary investigation indicated the module was part of an organised cross-border network smuggling and supplying illegal arms to criminal elements in India. The accused allegedly communicated with international handlers and suppliers in neighbouring countries and used covert routes and intermediaries to transport weapons across borders and distribute them domestically.
Police said efforts are underway to trace the module’s backward and forward linkages and identify other associates. Further investigation is under way.
