Kuwait City [Kuwait], March 20 (ANI): Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) said on Friday that the Mina Al Ahmadi Refinery was struck by drone attacks earlier in the day, sparking fires in several units. In a statement on its official X account, KPC said no injuries were reported and emergency teams were actively containing the situation.
“Mina Al Ahmadi Refinery was targeted by drone attacks early today, causing a fire in several units and prompting the precautionary shutdown of parts of the facility. No injuries have been reported, and emergency teams are actively working to contain the situation in line with established safety standards,” the post said.
The incident comes amid a series of attacks on energy infrastructure across West Asia and the Gulf linked to the wider conflict between the US-Israel coalition and Iran. In recent days, Israel struck Iran’s South Pars gas field; Iran retaliated by hitting Qatar’s Ras Laffan Industrial City, causing extensive damage, according to Iran’s Ministry of Defence. An Iranian ballistic missile also struck the Haifa oil refinery complex in northern Israel, CNN reported, with Israeli sources confirming the strike. Saudi Arabia said it shot down four more drones amid the escalating tensions.
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said Tehran’s response to the Israeli attack had used only a “fraction” of its power out of respect for calls to de-escalate, warning of “zero restraint” if Iranian infrastructure is targeted again. He wrote on X: “Our response to Israel’s attack on our infrastructure employed FRACTION of our power. The ONLY reason for restraint was respect for requested de-escalation. ZERO restraint if our infrastructures are struck again. Any end to this war must address damage to our civilian sites.”
The situation remains volatile as both sides engage in missile exchanges and military operations across the region. (ANI)
