Riyadh [Saudi Arabia], March 17 (ANI): The Saudi Arabian Ministry of Defence confirmed a fresh wave of aerial activity today, saying it has downed three more drones in the Eastern Province. The interceptions occurred shortly after the military neutralised a larger swarm of unmanned aerial vehicles in the same area.
Officials said the drones were intercepted and destroyed soon after being detected in the eastern part of the kingdom. This followed an earlier ministry report that Saudi forces had engaged six drones in the same vicinity, all of which were successfully destroyed to prevent any impact.
Amid these tensions, UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan held a telephone conversation yesterday with Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to review regional developments. According to Gulf News, the leaders assessed the surge in activity as posing “grave threats to regional and global security and stability.”
They also addressed what they described as ongoing and “blatant Iranian attacks” against nations across the region, saying such actions violate sovereign rights and contravene international norms. In light of the deteriorating security situation, the two leaders emphasised the need for an “immediate cessation of military escalation” and stressed the importance of “prioritising serious dialogue and diplomatic means” to resolve regional issues while preserving regional security and peace.
These developments come as the broader conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran enters its 18th day. The crisis, which began on February 28, was triggered by US and Israeli strikes that resulted in the death of Iran’s former Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Since the outbreak of hostilities, Iran has consistently targeted US bases and regional interests. (ANI)
