Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday spoke by phone with Sultan Haitham bin Tarik of Oman and Kuwait’s Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, expressing concern over attacks on their countries amid the ongoing West Asia conflict, officials said.
In both calls, Modi discussed the welfare and security of the Indian community living in Oman and Kuwait, the officials added.
An official statement said the prime minister held separate conversations with the two Gulf leaders on Tuesday afternoon, conveying India’s concern over recent incidents affecting their territories and citizens.
The calls followed a coordinated offensive by the United States and Israel that resulted in the death of Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran subsequently launched drones and missiles at Israel, US military installations in the Gulf, and at international business and aviation hubs including Dubai and Doha.
Over the past two days, Modi has also spoken with the King of Bahrain and the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, condemning recent attacks on those countries as violations of sovereignty and territorial integrity and saying India stands in solidarity with their peoples.
The prime minister has further held talks with King Abdullah II of Jordan, United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as the situation in the region evolves.
