United States Central Command (CENTCOM) says three US F-15E Strike Eagles were mistakenly shot down by Kuwaiti air defences during combat operations on Sunday. CENTCOM reported the aircraft were engaged in error and confirmed all six aircrew ejected safely, were recovered, and are in stable condition. Kuwait has acknowledged the incident and is cooperating with an investigation; officials said the cause is being examined and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
Separately, Qatar’s Defence Ministry said two drones struck energy facilities in the industrial city of Ras Laffan, with no casualties reported. According to the ministry, one drone hit a water tank at a Mesaieed power plant and the other struck a Qatar Energy facility in Ras Laffan Industrial City. Qatari authorities said they will assess damages and losses and will issue an official statement after the assessment.
Both events occurred amid heightened regional tensions following the outbreak of a wider conflict after a major military offensive on February 28. The offensive was followed by a coordinated operation called Operation Epic Fury/Roaring Lion, during which US and Israeli forces conducted large-scale air and missile strikes across Iran targeting military sites, nuclear-related infrastructure, missile batteries, and leadership compounds.
