Washington DC [US], February 3 (ANI): White House Deputy Press Secretary Kush Desai on Tuesday called the India-US trade agreement “historic” and a victory for Americans.
Posting on X, Desai wrote: “The Dealmaker in Chief has secured a trade deal with a fast-growing, top five global economy that’s home to over one billion people. Another historic victory for American workers, farmers, and industries.”
India’s Ambassador to the US, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, also praised the deal, saying it would create vast opportunities for both countries. In an X post, Kwatra described the agreement as “A big WIN for a consequential partnership under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Donald Trump,” and said the announcement heralds an exciting new phase in India-US ties.
The agreement gives India lower tariff rates than Pakistan. Under an Executive Order issued by US President Donald Trump on July 31, 2025, reciprocal tariff rates for Pakistan were set at 19%.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is scheduled to meet US Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the Department of State on Tuesday at 3:30 pm (US local time). The meeting is part of Jaishankar’s three-day visit to the United States, where he will attend the inaugural Critical Minerals Ministerial on February 4, hosted by Washington. Ahead of the ministerial, the US Department of State said Secretary Rubio will convene global partners to strengthen cooperation on critical mineral supply chains. (ANI)
