Washington, DC [US], December 14 (ANI): Tara Chand, president of the Baloch American Congress, urged Bollywood actors and the Indian film industry to make a film exposing what he described as Pakistan’s forced and undemocratic occupation of Balochistan.
In a post on X, Chand said Balochistan had been independent before being forcibly occupied by Pakistan in March 1948. He alleged the Pakistani army invaded and has controlled Balochistan and its regions since, resulting in prolonged conflict and repression.
Chand accused authorities of systematically looting Balochistan’s vast natural resources for decades, naming natural gas, minerals, gold, silver, coal and coastal and ocean resources as being exploited while the Baloch population remains deprived and oppressed.
He said resistance to Pakistani rule began immediately after the occupation, with the Baloch rising in revolt multiple times. According to Chand, the largest phase of armed resistance began around 2000 and continues today, with many Baloch killed and subjected to serious human rights abuses during the prolonged struggle.
Highlighting current conditions, Chand alleged mass enforced disappearances by the Pakistani army, saying political activists, lawyers, teachers, doctors, students, educated youth and women have been abducted. He claimed thousands of Baloch men and women are held in military prisons without due legal process.
Despite decades of repression, Chand said the people of Balochistan remain determined to pursue their struggle for freedom and homeland. He alleged that innocent Baloch are still being kidnapped daily and coerced into surrender, but that the movement for Baloch self-determination remains alive.
