Kathmandu [Nepal], December 9 (ANI): Munu Mahawar, Additional Secretary (North) in India’s Ministry of External Affairs, met Interim Nepal Prime Minister Sushila Karki at her office on Tuesday, the Prime Minister’s Office said.
The officials discussed various aspects of Nepal-India relations. Mahawar, who arrived in Kathmandu on Sunday, reviewed the progress of India-assisted projects in Nepal and preparations for the national election scheduled for March 2026. He committed India’s support for the polls and said assistance would continue across other fronts.
Earlier, Mahawar met Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal and pledged support for necessary resources and security arrangements for the elections. He also assured assistance for reconstruction in Jajarkot following the earthquake and aid in restoring and managing other structures damaged by disasters, the Home Minister’s Secretariat said. During that meeting Mahawar invited Minister Aryal for an official visit to India.
Home Minister Aryal requested acceleration of work on the dry port under construction at Dodhara-Chandani in Kanchanpur and emphasized the need to strengthen border security agencies’ capacity, enhance information sharing, and more effectively control cross-border crimes, theft, smuggling and other illicit activities.
On Monday evening, Mahawar attended the 3rd India-Nepal Cultural Festival in Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautam Buddha. The festival, organized by the Embassy of India in Nepal in collaboration with the Lumbini Development Trust and Lumbini Buddhist University, focused on Buddhism.
Addressing the event, Mahawar highlighted the deep civilizational and cultural ties between the two countries and their shared reverence for Lord Buddha, noting that Buddha was born in Lumbini and delivered his first sermon in Sarnath, which he said forms an enduring bond between India and Nepal.
