Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], May 7 (ANI) — Vietnam President To Lam arrived in Mumbai on Thursday and was warmly received by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Fadnavis greeted the visiting president on arrival and posted a welcome message on X, noting Maharashtra’s warm reception; Governor Jishnu Dev Varma and state minister Jaykumar Rawal also joined for the welcome.
During his stay in Mumbai, President To Lam is scheduled to meet Chief Minister Fadnavis and take part in a business forum aimed at strengthening India–Vietnam economic and commercial ties. He is also expected to hold talks with Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma.
Earlier in New Delhi, President Droupadi Murmu received President To Lam at Rashtrapati Bhavan and hosted a banquet in his honour. President Murmu said upgrading India–Vietnam relations to an Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership would give fresh momentum to bilateral cooperation and support peace, stability and prosperity across the region.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi noted that President To Lam’s visit so soon after assuming office underlines the priority placed on India–Vietnam relations. PM Modi highlighted that the Vietnamese president began his visit in Bodh Gaya, underscoring the civilisational and spiritual links between the two countries. In a post on X, PM Modi said discussions with President To Lam focused on deepening developmental cooperation in trade, technology and tourism, and expanding collaboration in agriculture, fisheries, critical minerals, rare earths and energy. The two sides set a goal of raising bilateral trade to USD 25 billion by 2030.
