At least 11 people were killed and several others injured when a van plunged into a deep ravine on Monday in Malam Jabba, a popular tourist area in Swat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, officials said. The victims were reportedly travelling to attend a wedding.
Rescue 1122 said several women and children were among the dead, including the groom’s mother. Local residents launched initial rescue efforts before medical teams and government officials reached the scene. The injured were evacuated to Saidu Sharif Hospital.
Authorities said the vehicle lost control and fell into the gorge. Rescue teams faced difficulties because of the rugged, mountainous terrain typical of the area, complicating retrieval and medical treatment.
Local officials have opened an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. Further details on the identities of the victims and the condition of the injured were not immediately available.
