New Delhi, Apr 26, 2026 — A Zurich-bound Swiss International Air Lines Airbus A330-300 (registration HB-JHK) carrying 232 passengers, including four infants, and 13 crew aborted its takeoff at Delhi airport at about 1:00 am on April 26 after crew detected an engine problem, the airline said.
Crew members halted the takeoff, assessed the situation and, as a precaution, ordered an evacuation. Passengers and crew left the aircraft using emergency slides; stairs were provided for those unable to use slides. Swiss reported that four passengers remain in hospital receiving treatment and a cabin crew member suffered a minor foot or ankle injury. Earlier reports said six passengers were undergoing medical evaluation. Specifics about how injuries occurred were not immediately available.
Airport sources said smoke was seen coming from the port side of a main wheel during the rejected takeoff, and initial messages to air traffic control suggested a tyre burst. Delhi airport operator DIAL declared a full emergency for flight LX147 on Runway 28/10 but said airport operations were not affected and that all required safety protocols were promptly executed to ensure a safe evacuation.
Swiss said it is investigating the cause of the engine issue and will send technical specialists to Delhi to inspect the aircraft and determine next steps. The airline has accommodated affected passengers in hotels, rebooked them on alternative flights and is providing support and regular updates to those involved.
