New Delhi — On May 12, 2026, South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ronald Ozzy Lamola, arrived in New Delhi to take part in the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting scheduled for May 14–15. His arrival marks the beginning of a major diplomatic gathering under India’s 2026 BRICS chairship and the first full ministerial meeting since the group’s 2025 discussions on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
Led by India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, the summit is intended to deepen cooperation among member states and advance India’s agenda for the year. The Ministry of External Affairs has said visiting ministers will call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the visit.
India is hosting the meeting under the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability,” which extends the “Humanity First” and “People‑Centric” priorities Prime Minister Modi emphasized at the 2025 Brazil summit. That approach places social and economic welfare at the centre of the BRICS agenda as India aims to shape a more inclusive global agenda.
Delegates will also address pressing geopolitical and economic pressures, including the global fallout from the US–Iran conflict, and discuss possible reforms to international governance and the global power structure to promote greater equity.
The ministers represent the expanded BRICS membership — Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the UAE — with India positioning itself as a bridge among these emerging powers. (ANI)
