New York [US], May 3 (ANI): The Consulate General of India in New York held celebrations for Gujarat and Maharashtra Day, with Ambassador Vinay Mohan Kwatra lauding the Indian diaspora as a living bridge strengthening India‑US ties.
In a post on X, the Consulate said former Union Minister Suresh Prabhu praised the role of both states in India’s growth and development. Ambassador Kwatra honored several individuals during the event, including Suresh Prabhu; Hemant Marathe, Mayor of West Windsor; Pulkit Desai, Mayor of Parsippany‑Troy Hills; Falu Shah, Grammy Award winner; actress Archana Joglekar; actress Pooja Jhaveri; and Gujarati folk singer Hardik Chauhan, for their contributions across different fields.
The Consulate thanked the Gujarati Associations of North America, the Federation of Indian Associations, and other community organizations for helping make the occasion a success.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended greetings for both Gujarat Day and Maharashtra Day. On X, he described Gujarat Day as a celebration of the state’s rich history, vibrant culture and enterprising spirit, and wished Gujarat continued progress. He also offered heartfelt greetings to people of Maharashtra, praising the state’s cultural heritage and contributions in literature, music, cinema, industry and education, and wishing for its continued development and the well‑being of its people.
May 1 marks the foundation day of Maharashtra and Gujarat, commemorating the formation of the two states in 1960 after the division of Bombay State under the Bombay Reorganisation Act, which took effect on May 1, 1960. (ANI)
