Dushanbe [Tajikistan], April 14 (ANI): An earthquake of magnitude 4.5 struck Tajikistan on Sunday evening, the National Centre for Seismology (NCS) reported. The quake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres and was recorded at latitude 38.98 N and longitude 70.61 E. NCS posted the details on X: “EQ of M: 4.5, On: 13/04/2025 20:04:27 IST, Lat: 38.98 N, Long: 70.61 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Tajikistan.”
Earlier on Sunday, Tajikistan experienced two other quakes. The first measured 6.1 and occurred at 09:54:02 IST at 38.86 N, 70.61 E, depth 10 km; the second measured 3.9 at 10:36:09 IST at 39.02 N, 70.40 E, depth 10 km, the NCS said.
The United Nations Development Coordination Office notes that Tajikistan’s landscapes and vulnerable communities face constant threats from earthquakes, floods and landslides—risks intensified by climate change—that displace thousands annually and cost an estimated 1.3 percent of the country’s GDP.
