New York, May 8, 2026 — Union Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh held a productive meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres at UN headquarters on the sidelines of the second International Migration Review Forum (IMRF) under the Global Compact for Migration.
Singh, who arrived in New York earlier in the week to lead the Indian delegation, took part in the IMRF sessions running May 4–8 under the UN General Assembly’s oversight. He posted on X that he had a “productive meeting” with the Secretary‑General.
During the day Singh delivered India’s national statement at the IMRF plenary and chaired a side event organised by India’s Permanent Mission to the UN titled “Leveraging Digital Innovation in Migration Governance: The e‑Migrate Experience of India,” highlighting India’s digital approach to migration management.
At a reception hosted by India’s Permanent Mission, Singh addressed UN ambassadors, senior officials and delegation heads, urging institutional reform and calling for a more agile, effective and impactful United Nations able to meet contemporary global challenges.
The Indian Mission also held a commemorative event marking the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor, the military action launched by India last May to dismantle terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan‑occupied Kashmir following the April 22 Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians. The Permanent Mission expressed appreciation for Singh’s participation and guidance as India advances and defends its national interests at the UN.
