New York, May 7 — Union Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh met with Bart van den Brink, Vice Prime Minister and Minister for Asylum and Migration of the Netherlands, to discuss cooperation on migration and related areas of mutual interest. Singh also held talks with Magnus Brunner, EU Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration, focusing on mobility and migration issues and reviewing the India–EU comprehensive framework on cooperation in mobility, as well as the recently launched Legal Gateway Office for the ICT sector.
On the sidelines of the 2nd International Migration Review Forum, Singh met Saul Pacurucu, Ecuador’s Deputy Minister of Human Mobility, to explore ways to strengthen cooperation on safe, orderly and regular migration, develop mobility partnerships, and address bilateral migration concerns.
Upon arrival at United Nations Headquarters, Singh paid floral tributes at the bust of Mahatma Gandhi.
Singh served as a panelist in Round Table 1 at the Forum, where he outlined India’s steps to facilitate safe and regular migration. He highlighted the use of Digital Public Infrastructure, enhancements to consular services, the negotiation of migration and mobility agreements, and efforts to upskill, train and provide pre-departure preparation for skilled workers. He underlined India’s people-centered approach to migration policy, rooted in dignity, inclusion and respect for migrants’ rights.
